another poorly thought out product idea
There are a lot of people here in San Francisco who spend time staring at the pixels on their computer screen. I’m one of them. Between the fog and the time spent indoors with a computer, we’re mighty pale. Mighty pale. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could get a nice tan while working at our computers? Yes it would. Thus was born my idea for the “Monitan”.
What is the Monitan? Well, I’m glad you asked. Let me tell you. The Monitan is a special kind of computer display (aka monitor). It doesn’t just beam out electrons. Oh no. This computer monitor also beams out tanning UV rays. People would have to start showing up to work in their bathing suits to avoid getting a farmer’s tan. I envison cubicles filled with folks holding those old school 3-fold tanning mirrors during their breaks. Then we can all look like George Hamilton. Doesn’t everybody want to look like George Hamilton?

So… users of the Monitan will be staring at pixels not only emitting light but UV rays? Is that safe?
I can imagine many… well, many Westerners at least, who might like the idea of the Monitan though. I mean think about it - you get to tan while working: nice multitasking and if you can’t afford a vacation in the Bahamas or somewhere, you don’t have to spend the buck at a tanning salon for that rich golden gleam; and work dress code in the office including bathing suits? Yeah, guys would give your idea extra points if the secretary/receptionist is cute.
